The Cadillac Escalade offers a spacious, well-finished cabin for travel around San Francisco. Its three-row seating suits larger families and groups, although passenger and luggage capacity depend on the seating configuration.
Hakone Estate and Gardens
Hakone Estate and Gardens sits in the hills above Saratoga and is one of the oldest residential-style Japanese gardens open to the public in the Western Hemisphere. A bamboo garden, a tea garden and a dry garden are among the features of the approximately 18-acre estate, first established in 1915.
Sonoma Plaza
Sonoma Plaza is the largest town square in California, with historic Sonoma Barracks and City Hall, whose cornerstone was laid in 1906. Restaurants, shops and wine-tasting rooms surround the square. Two free public parking lots are available nearby, which may be more practical than relying on limited street parking.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
The Monterey Bay Aquarium on Cannery Row combines public exhibits with marine research and conservation programs. Its exhibits include a living kelp forest and sea otters, while sea otter rehabilitation forms part of its conservation work. The Great Tide Pool is a natural outdoor habitat beside the aquarium's rear deck.
Route 29 runs north through the valley floor past Yountville, Oakville and Rutherford toward Calistoga, with vineyards and winery entrances along stretches of the road. It is the main north-to-south road on the western side of Napa Valley, while the less-traveled Silverado Trail runs roughly parallel on the eastern side. Winery visits often require advance reservations, so the trip is best planned before setting out.
