These Platform Terms of Service contain important information about the services we provide and the conditions that apply to their use. The Platform Terms of Service constitute a legally binding agreement between Movly and you, whether personally or on behalf of an entity, concerning your access to and use of the services. Each time you book, rent, or drive a car booked through Movly, you confirm your agreement with our Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of our Terms of Service, you should not book a car through our platform and should stop using our services immediately.

Other content on Movly app or the web such as the Indicative Car Rental Terms, ‘About us’ page, FAQs or other informational pages are not part of these Terms of Service. In the event of any discrepancy between these Terms of Service and the information given on the website or in the app, the Terms of Service prevail.

If any authority determines that any of these provisions are void or unenforceable, the rest of the terms will continue to apply.

Please read these Terms of Service thoroughly before renting.

General information

Movly is a platform that bands together smart mobility services. We offer car rental through our App (‘the App’) and Website (‘the Website’) and other services that refer or link to these Terms of Service (‘the Terms of Service’) (collectively, ‘the Services’). You can search for and book a car either on our Website, in our App, or via our partners’ sites.

Your vehicle may be provided by either Movly or another vehicle operator. The actual vehicle operator will be indicated 60 hours before the scheduled pick-up time. The indicative terms and conditions of the vehicle operator will be made available at that time through the Movly App. The rental agreement will be concluded between you and the vehicle operator during the vehicle pick-up.

In case your rental is serviced by a partnered vehicle operator, by using our services, you agree and accept that we cannot be held responsible for any extra charges, expenses, or other costs incurred due to any actions taken by the vehicle operator or yourself. Should we be held responsible for any refunds, its liability is limited to the prepayment made by you. We accept no responsibility for any charges incurred due to agreements or documents signed between you and the vehicle operator.

We may update our Terms of Service from time to time, and you are advised to visit our Website or App to review any changes to these Terms of Service that apply to you. In case of major changes to our Terms of Service, you will receive an in-app notification and an email, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the updates and stop using our Services if you do not agree with them. In the event of any discrepancy between the original English version of these Terms of Service and translation into any other language, the English version prevails.

Our services

You can search for available cars without logging in or signing up. However, to book a rental through Movly, manage its details, or pick up and drop off your car, you will need to install our App and create an Account. You can view your rental details in our App under More -> Rentals by selecting the rental you wish to manage from either the ‘Current rentals’ or ‘Future rentals’ tab.

Rentals booked through Movly are station-based. This means you pick up and return the car to a specific location or area (e.g. an airport parking facility). Instructions for the exact pick-up and drop-off locations are given in the Movly App.

Scheduled rent

Scheduled rent is a service whereby you are required to set the desired dates and times for picking up and dropping off the car. The required advance notice for scheduled rent depends on the car’s location and availability. You can check which cars are available for your selected time period via the Movly Website, App, or our partners’ platforms.

Typically, the price of your rental is calculated based on 24-hour intervals. For example, a 25-hour rental costs just as much as a 48-hour rental.

Car subscription

Car subscription is a sub-type of scheduled rent whereby the rental cost is charged in monthly instalments. A car subscription period may vary depending on the vehicle operator. You may be required to return to the pick-up location periodically with your subscription vehicle.

Make and model

The cars listed on the Movly platform can either be make-and-model-guaranteed or those similar to the requested make and model, indicated by the phrase ‘or similar’.

For cars with a guaranteed make and model, you will receive the car displayed on the Website or in the App. However, the colour of the actual car may differ from that shown in the sample image.

If the make and model is followed by the phrase ‘or similar’, this means the displayed car is a sample. You may receive a different make and model, but it will have the same number of doors, seats, and a similar luggage capacity.

If the booked car class is available at the time of pick-up, it will be provided. If not, a car of the same or higher class will be offered. On rare occasions, only cars of a lower car class may be available.

Creating an account

To rent a car through Movly, you need to create an account. To do this, download our App and enter your phone number. You will then receive a text message with a verification code to confirm your number. Once you have entered the correct verification code in the App, your account is created.

You need to provide the required personal details when making your first booking or in the App under More -> Profile. You can also view and manage your personal information there.

User requirements

Terms and conditions for renting a car vary by vehicle operator. However, the key indicative conditions, such as driver requirements, insurance, deposit, payments, and fuel policy, as provided by the rental provider, are available in the Movly App. The full terms and conditions applicable to your rental are available at pick-up. Your verification with Movly does not guarantee that you will pass the vehicle operator’s identity checks.

Verification by Movly

All customers must be verified in the Movly app. This ensures a smoother pick-up with some of our car rental partners and serves as the basis for a contactless Movly rental experience.

To start the verification process, you should use our App to take photos of the required documents and upload them.
  • You should take the required photos in the App either under More -> ID Documents, by following the prompt that appears in the App after your rental has been confirmed, or by tapping My rental -> Add documents.
  • You can view and manage your documents under More -> ID Documents.
  • Only users with a verified status are allowed to pick up vehicles if Movly is the vehicle operator. If you have not reached the verified status by the pick-up time, standard cancellation and no-show fees apply.

You are responsible for keeping your personal information and document photos up-to-date. You can check your verification status in the App under More -> Profile -> Verification Status.

Depending on the vehicle operator, you might have to go through additional verification and present your documents during the pick-up.

You should have your driving licence and identification documents with you and be ready to present them to our staff or to the local authorities, if requested.

All documents have to be valid original physical documents. Please note that temporary documents are not accepted.

Photo requirements

All the documents that you submit for verification must:

  • be in your name;
  • show your identity;
  • be valid at the time of verification;
  • be valid at least until you return the rental car.

The document photos that you upload must be:

  • clear and legible without any reflections or blur;
  • complete — displayed in full size without fingers or other objects blocking any part of the document;
  • taken on a flat surface — do not hold the documents in your hand;
  • original photos — do not take photos from a different screen or photo.

Selfie

Your entire face needs to be visible. Take off your hat, face mask, etc. Religious head coverings such as hijabs and khimars are accepted as long as you are identifiable against your official documents. Regular transparent glasses are fine as long as they do not cause reflections in the photo. Take off glasses with dark or tinted lenses. Position your face in the middle of the picture, looking straight into the camera with your eyes open.

Verification

Verification failures

Movly reserves the right to refuse service to any customer who does not pass identity verification. We also have the right to cancel your rental if:
  • you have not uploaded the required documents before you are scheduled to pick up your rental car;
  • you do not meet user requirements to rent the specific car, e.g. due to age restrictions, or you have not held your driving licence for the required period;
  • there are reasonable grounds to suspect that your rental is fraudulent.

We reserve the right to ask for additional information or documentation if it is necessary to verify your identity. In such cases, we will contact you directly with the details. If there are any issues with the documents you have uploaded, we will contact you and request that you provide new photos. We may also request a brief video call with you.

Note that Movly’s document requirements may differ from those of your vehicle operator. Movly assumes no responsibility for no-shows or additional costs incurred due to a customer’s failure to present documents required by the vehicle operator. These documents will be specified in the vehicle operator’s terms and conditions.

If we need to cancel your booking for any of the aforementioned reasons, our standard cancellation conditions apply.

Verification validity

Once we have verified your identity, you will be considered a verified user.

Users with a verified status do not have to verify themselves again when returning for their next rental.

Your status remains verified until one of the documents you uploaded for verification expires. Once this happens, we will ask you to upload your renewed documents. We also need to verify your identity again when you change your name or date of birth in the App or upload new photos.

Your liability for your personal data

In order to provide the services, Movly is entitled to process and transmit your personal data, contact information and booking-related information to vehicle operators to facilitate the requested rental service.

By uploading any documents or photos, you confirm that you have the rights to use those documents and photos, and give Movly the right to use, reproduce, and display them in connection with your use of our Website, App, and Services.

  • Movly reserves this right until you continue to use our Website, App and Services, and this right applies to elements subject to intellectual property rights as well as to those relating to the protection of your privacy and your image rights.

If Movly or our partners incur any losses, liabilities, or costs as a result of your actions or omissions, you will be fully responsible and obligated to compensate Movly and our partners accordingly.

If we terminate or suspend your Account for any reason, you are prohibited from registering or creating a new account under your own name, a false or borrowed name, or the name of any third party, even if acting on their behalf.

Movly reserves the right to share your documents with any parties it deems necessary for verification purposes.

Confirmation and contracting

You will receive the final details regarding your booking 60 hours before the pick-up time if your booking has been confirmed and the agreed prepayments have been successful.

A valid email address and an active phone number are required to send you confirmation and important information regarding your rental. You must use the same phone number to log into the Movly App and when making a booking through other channels. This is necessary to enable the syncing of rental details across channels and devices.

As a Movly user, you agree to our Terms of Service when creating your account. The specific details of each rental, such as car details, pick-up and drop-off location details etc., are agreed upon at the start of the rental.

Movly reserves the right to refuse any upcoming rental or terminate any ongoing rental due to threats to Movly team members or property.

Payment, fees and security deposit

Payment methods

We accept payments made by a credit or debit card with an online payment function. We only accept physical payment cards; virtual cards are not accepted. The card used to pay for Movly’s services must be in your name. Payment requirements may vary depending on the vehicle operator. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with the vehicle operator’s requirements.

Movly displays the total booking price before you select a payment method and enter your payment details on our Website, App, or partner platforms. Payment terms may vary depending on the vehicle operator and may include full prepayment, partial prepayment, or a split payment between now and later. The entity handling your payment may also differ, depending on the booking platform and vehicle operator. As a customer, you should be aware that by entering your payment details and approving the payment, you are expressing your intent to conclude the Movly service agreement. Depending on the vehicle operator’s terms, the cost of the rental and any extras may be charged during the booking process or at the pick-up location. This information is displayed during the booking process.

You acknowledge that, should we have any outstanding claims against you (including but not limited to penalties, damages, fines, and fees), you hereby authorise us to charge, unilaterally and without further prior authorisation, any and all sums payable by you to any of your payment cards. Movly reserves the right to assign or transfer any outstanding claims and to disclose the debtor’s information to third parties, such as debt collection agencies and default registers. This applies to any outstanding claims you may have incurred during any of your previous rentals with Movly.

The payment details, invoices, or cost breakdowns may vary depending on the service you used to book your rental. If there are any discrepancies due to associated fees, you will not receive a refund for the difference.

Fees

The prices displayed in our App, on our Website and on our partners’ platforms already include taxes and fees. However, additional fees may apply under certain circumstances. If your rental is serviced by another vehicle operator, their fees may apply. These will be outlined in the rental agreement provided by the vehicle operator.

If any of these additional fees apply, the vehicle operator or Movly will deduct them from your security deposit or charge them to your payment card after your rental.

You will always be notified when a fee is charged.

Currency exchange rates and bank charges

Movly primarily transacts in euros, and it is your responsibility to cover any exchange rate differences and bank charges related to your rental (including the security deposit). Please note that the amounts displayed in our App and on our Website may vary due to fluctuations in exchange rates and potential bank charges. The payment currency is shown in your rental details.

Optional extras

You can add optional extras, such as child seats and additional coverage, to your rental. The exact price and availability of these extras may vary depending on your rental location, vehicle operator, and the specific vehicle.

Extras are non-refundable once the rental period has started.

If physical optional extras, such as child seats, snow chains, or other tangible items, are lost, damaged, or soiled during your rental, you will be responsible for all costs associated with cleaning or replacing them.

If your vehicle is not provided by Movly, the prices of extras may change after booking.

Changes to your rental

Please contact our customer support if you need to make any changes to your rental after it has been confirmed. This includes, but is not limited to, changing your rental dates, the car, or adding optional extras.

Any changes to the rental details may also affect the rental price, as the rates at the time of booking and the time of making the changes may differ. If no deals are available, we may not be able to accommodate your change request. For changes requested within 48 hours of the pick-up, a cancellation fee will be charged if the booking is cancelled due to the requested change not being possible. If you need to extend your rental, please contact our customer support. However, we cannot always guarantee that extensions will be possible.

You acknowledge that the rental payments are non-refundable if you end your rental early.

Cancellations and no-shows

Cancellation

You can cancel your rental before the scheduled pick-up time by contacting our customer support or by requesting a cancellation through the Movly App.

The same cancellation rules apply whether you cancel your rental yourself or Movly cancels it due to a failure to comply with the Terms of Service, the vehicle operator’s terms and conditions, or the rental agreement.

If you cancel your rental at least 48 hours before the scheduled pick-up time, you will receive a full refund.

If you cancel your rental less than 48 hours before the scheduled pick-up time, a cancellation fee equal to the full prepaid amount will be charged.

If a booking is made less than 48 hours before the pick-up time, the price is non-refundable.

If the selected vehicle operator is unable to provide you with the car, we will make every effort to redirect your booking to another vehicle operator.

No-show

If you fail to pick up the car at the scheduled time and have not informed the vehicle operator of any delays, the rental will be considered a no-show, and you will be charged a no-show fee.

It is also considered a no-show if you:

  • wish to cancel your booking but fail to inform the vehicle operator before your rental is due to start;
  • fail to pick up the car at the arranged date and time;
  • fail to provide the documentation required to pick up the car;
  • fail to provide a credit card in the main driver’s name with sufficient funds to cover the deposit;
  • fail to meet the vehicle operator’s terms or requirements;
  • are denied the vehicle due to being blacklisted or appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
  • fail to download the Movly app before the pick-up time.

In all these cases, you will not receive a refund of any payments made.

If you experience any delays, please contact the vehicle operator and Movly immediately.

Indicative car rental terms

The vehicle operator terms and conditions shared with you through the Movly app 60 hours before the pick-up time are not legally binding and are provided solely to give you a general understanding of the possible terms and conditions of the vehicle operator.

Vehicle operators have the right to deny a vehicle to any person deemed unfit to drive or ineligible to meet the requirements. Movly will not be held responsible for completion of travel arrangements, compensation, costs, or any refund in such cases.

Important notice

Please also keep in mind that the vehicle operator’s terms and conditions and the general rental conditions are subject to change without prior notice. These general rental conditions for informational purposes only. The legally binding document is the rental agreement between you and the vehicle operator, which you agree to when the vehicle operator hands over the rental vehicle to you.

Please note that the names of coverage products, fees, charges, optional extras, etc., used by the vehicle operator may not be exactly the same as the ones displayed on the website or app. The names here are standardised to facilitate comparison between different vehicle operator offers.

All rates shown have been converted into euros and are approximate.

Vehicle operator terms and conditions

The exact Terms and Conditions may vary depending on location. The full applicable Terms and Conditions of the vehicle operator will be available at the time of pick-up. You will receive an indicative version of the vehicle operator’s Terms and Conditions 60 hours before the pick-up. However, Movly assumes no responsibility towards the customer if the rental conditions or the vehicle operator’s Terms and Conditions change.

A young/senior driver fee may apply depending on the vehicle operator’s terms and conditions, typically for customers between 18–25 and over 65 years of age.

If you add additional drivers to your rental and any of them are considered young/senior drivers, you may have to pay both an additional driver fee and a young/senior driver fee.

If the age details are changed or confirmed during the verification process, for example, if you made your booking via a platform that does not confirm age details, this may affect the deals available to you.

Different driver age restrictions apply to various vehicle groups and operators.

All documents must be complete, original, physical, and valid versions. Despite being verified in the Movly app, you may still have to present your documents at the time of the pick-up. The deposit is an amount held on your credit card for security purposes and will be released in full unless there are unexpected charges resulting from, for example, traffic fines, returning the car with missing fuel or requiring additional cleaning. Please note that the deposit amount shown typically does not include the rental cost.

Generally, Mastercard and Visa credit cards are accepted as deposit methods; however, this may differ depending on the operator. Typically, debit cards are not permitted.

Please note that the security deposit may still be required even if you reduce the excess to zero or to a lower amount by purchasing additional insurance products.

The security deposit amount is specified in the vehicle operator’s terms and conditions, which are made available in the Movly app 60 hours before the pick-up time.

Please note that the amount may change if you purchase additional products at the time of the pick-up, select a vehicle from a different category or fail to meet vehicle operator’s terms or requirements.

Policies, coverage and taxes

Under no circumstances is the vehicle operator liable for any claims made by you for lost profit or similar matters.

Excess and coverage

The excess on Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) / Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) varies depending on the rental location and vehicle operator.

These amounts apply if a waiver is included in the rates or purchased separately. You can reduce the excess by purchasing additional coverage products.

Coverage exclusions

If you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use the rental vehicle in any negligent or reckless manner, or breach the conditions set out in the rental agreement, all applicable insurance covers, waivers, etc., will be deemed void, and you will be fully responsible for all damage to the vehicle, as well as loss of use and any other related costs.

Only authorised drivers registered on the rental agreement are permitted to drive the rental vehicle. Damage caused by unauthorised drivers is not covered.

Third Party Liability (TPL)

Third-Party Liability is a form of liability insurance that protects the insured against damages caused to a third party, that is, a person or their property. The coverage amount depends on the vehicle operator’s terms and conditions.

Vehicle operator insurance and waiver products

Additional protections and insurances offered by the vehicle operator may be available for purchase at the time of picking up the rental vehicle.

You are required to return the car with the same amount of fuel as when it was collected. Always check that the fuel level in the rental car’s tank matches the amount stated on the car rental agreement before leaving the rental station.

Refuelling fees

Other cross-bordering restrictions and allowances may apply. Please enquire with the vehicle operator when picking up the vehicle.

Unauthorised cross-border driving is subject to a penalty.

Please note that cross-bordering is not limited to international one-way rentals—crossing the border into another country or state and returning the rental vehicle to the original pick-up location is also considered cross-bordering.

One-way rentals

A rental is considered one-way if you return the vehicle to a location other than the one from which it was collected. Each quote is only valid for the selected pick-up and return locations. To view one-way rates for other locations, please conduct a new online search or contact customer support.

If you leave the rental vehicle at any other location belonging to the same vehicle operator without the prior consent of the pick-up location, you will be required to pay a penalty.

Vehicle pick-up and drop-off

Vehicle pick-up and drop-off

If your vehicle is provided by an operator other than Movly, we hold no responsibility for wait times during pick-up or drop-off.

Flight information

For airport pick-ups, it is essential that you provide us with the correct flight number and arrival time. We will do our best to forward these details to the vehicle operator. The vehicle operator is not responsible for any failed rentals if you fail to provide this information or did not provide it in time.

Out-of-hours service

Please keep in mind that even if the vehicle operator offers out-of-hours service, it is usually available upon request. This means you must inform the vehicle operator in advance by booking the correct pick-up and drop-off times. Out-of-hours fee amounts will only be displayed in the Terms and Conditions made available in the Movly app 60 hours before the pick-up time, if your pick-up and/or drop-off time falls within the out-of-hours range and the service is available. The displayed amount applies only to the pick-up and drop-off times that you searched for.

If you return the vehicle outside the vehicle operator’s normal operation hours, please ensure you know the procedure and the location of the key return box beforehand. Additionally, please be aware that you will remain liable for any vehicle damage until the return is registered on the next working day.

Delivery and collection

Delivery and collection are available only upon request, and the vehicle operator’s conditions and charges may apply.

Early and late returns

You are not entitled to a refund if you return the vehicle early.

An early return penalty may apply if you return the vehicle earlier than agreed in your rental agreement. Please check the details with the vehicle operator when picking up your rental vehicle.

A late return penalty may apply if you return the vehicle later than agreed in your rental agreement. Please check the details with the vehicle operator when picking up your rental vehicle.

Please note that if you pick up the rental vehicle earlier than indicated in the rental agreement, you may also have to return the vehicle earlier than initially requested.

Rental extensions

Extensions are only possible before the end of your original rental period. Please enquire with the vehicle operator when you pick up the rental vehicle for the specific extension time restrictions. You must present the extension voucher to the operator before the start of the extension period. If the vehicle operator does not receive a copy of the extension voucher before the original rental period ends, you will be required to pay a local penalty. Please note that extensions may not always be possible.

Parking and toll fees, traffic fines

Please keep in mind that you are responsible for all garaging and congestion charges, parking and other traffic fines and penalties, and toll fees / road tax (if not specified otherwise) incurred during the rental period. All such charges will be forwarded to you along with any administrative charges.

You will also be required to pay an administration fee.

Vehicle condition

You must return the vehicle in the same condition as when you received it. The vehicle operator will charge you at their own rates for any excessive staining, soiling and/or internal or external damage (including strong odours). You are responsible for inspecting the vehicle upon pick-up and drop-off, and for covering the cost of any new damage found at the end of your rental period.

If the vehicle requires more than the vehicle operator’s standard cleaning, you will be subject to an additional cleaning fee.

A damage administration fee applies if the vehicle is damaged or stolen during your rental period.

Please check with the vehicle operator at the time of vehicle pick-up for details on how to report damage, collisions, theft, vehicle confiscation, impounding, etc. Failure to comply with the correct procedure may result in your insurance coverage becoming invalid and/or the vehicle operator terminating the rental. If you do not follow the correct reporting procedures specified by the vehicle operator, you will be subject to a penalty.

You must properly react to all warning lights and other signs that may indicate a mechanical problem. If the rental vehicle experiences a mechanical problem, you must notify the vehicle operator immediately and agree upon further action—whether a replacement vehicle will be provided or reimbursable repairs will be authorised. If you have any repairs carried out to the rental vehicle without the vehicle operator’s prior authorisation, the costs will not be reimbursed.

Tampering with the odometer is strictly prohibited. If any issues with the odometer are detected, vehicle operator fees will apply.

You must take all necessary precautions to ensure that the vehicle is not stolen while it is under your responsibility. For example, you must never leave keys in the ignition when you are not in the vehicle, lock the vehicle and use all immobilisation and alarm equipment available, etc. If the vehicle is stolen due to your negligence, all insurance products, coverages and waivers are considered null and void, and you will be responsible for the full value of the rental vehicle as well as loss of use costs.

Transporting pets in rental vehicles is prohibited without prior consent from the vehicle operator.

You are prohibited from fitting the rental vehicle with extra equipment, such as luggage racks, ski racks, or towing hooks, unless provided by the vehicle operator.

Roadside assistance

The vehicle operator offers limited roadside assistance. Please inquire when collecting the vehicle.

Lost, damaged and stolen items

You are responsible if the key(s) are lost or damaged and are required to pay a penalty to the vehicle operator. Please note that if you do not return the keys to the vehicle operator in the event of theft, your insurance will be deemed void, and you may be held responsible for the full value of the vehicle. It is important to take care of the keys as some newer car models cannot be stolen without them. To avoid directing potential thieves to the details of your rental vehicle, it is highly recommended that you remove all rental tags from the key(s) and keep them in the glove box until returning the car. Please note that ‘key(s)’ refers to all types of keys and key-cards.

Safety equipment

Please note that you must use the appropriate safety equipment as required by law in your destination country. We strongly advise you to familiarise yourself with the requirements before travelling and to book necessary extras (such as child seats) in advance. If you book any type of child seat, most vehicle operators will not install it in the rental vehicle, and you will be responsible for fitting it yourself. Rental vehicles may be equipped with tracking devices for security purposes, and the vehicle operator’s conditions apply to the use of such devices.

Vehicle group/model

The make and model of the car are only guaranteed if explicitly stated in the offer. Typically, the particular car displayed during booking is for reference only, and the vehicle operator reserves the right to substitute it with an alternative, similar or upgraded car. If the vehicle you booked becomes unavailable due to a breakdown or an accident, the vehicle operator will provide you with a similar or upgraded vehicle.

Other important information

Complaints

Please refer to the terms of service for details on how to submit complaints. If your complaint pertains to the vehicle operator, you will be informed on how to file your complaint directly with them.

Local tax notice

We make every effort to ensure that all the prices displayed include tax. However, please note that local taxes and fees, like airport surcharges, may be applied additionally by the vehicle operator on locally paid extra charges, such as optional equipment and age-related fees. Local taxes and fees are controlled by local authorities and the vehicle operators and may be subject to change.
